Flames add Canadian forward Welychka to their roster ahead of new season


Canadian forward Brett Welychka will join Guildford Flames when the brand new hockey season starts in September.

The 30-year-old iced last season at German DEL2 side Bietigheim Steelers where he had 15 goals and 24 points in 25 starts before adding 2 goals and 4 assists in the playoffs. However, the experienced 5ft 10 skater is used to playing in England having played in 45 games for Nottingham Panthers last season, scoring 25 goals along with 14 assists  before a late season transfer to German outfit Dresdner Eislöwen where he kept up a near point a game record.

Paul Dixon told the Guildford Flames website “We remember Brett when he played against us with Panthers and he is definitely a top end skilled forward,”

“Scoring last year did not come easy for us and we are working to address that this summer with some of the players we are going after and Brett will definitely be a boost to our offensive prowess.”

“He is obviously already familiar with EIHL so it won’t be a completely new adjustment for him and it won’t take him long to show the skills that have us so excited that he will be in our lineup.”
